What is slow fashion?
The answer is relatively self explanatory. Slow fashion means that more thought, effort and care has gone into the production of clothing. It takes more time to design and produce. The clothing industry is generally producing to still the hunger of fad trends. This means clothes needs to be produced quickly which means that garments take a beating in terms of quality most of the time.
How come cheaper when seemingly pricey?
Something that we do as a society is to buy for the occasion and for the cheapest price possible. This might at first glance seem like a reasonable thought process but this usually turns into a rather pricy habit.
Let’s play with the idea of switching around our habit and add a few things to put into consideration.
- Make a list of what you need
- Make a plan on how you can make the garments work in several occasions, matching several other garments
- Ask yourself if the garments can last for the foreseeable future. Don’t forget to check the quality, material and washing instructions
- Ask yourself if you can use the piece in more than one season
Consider investing some extra minutes planning your purchases so that you don’t have to re-do the process every time. This will make you save more time and money in the long run.
